Jaeger-LeCoultre SA, or simply Jaeger-LeCoultre, is Swiss luxury watch and clock manufacturer based in Le Sentier, Switzerland. Founded in 1833 by Antonie LeCoultre, the company is famous for its hand made watch, designed and manufactured within its own workshops. It was also the first of its kind to introduce this approach to the watch making industry, revolutionizing the way watches are made today.

Introducing Master Ultra-Thin

Inspired by the world’s thinnest pocket watch that to this date holds the record, Edmond Jaeger, a watchmaker of French Navy challenged Swiss manufacturer to develop and produce the ultra-thin movements that he had invented.

The challenge was accepted by Jacques-David LeCoultre, grandson of Antonie LeCoultre. This led to the manufacture of the collection of ultra-thin pocket watches, including the world’s thinnest that was equipped with the LeCoultre Calibre 145.

Following this event, in 1937, the collaboration between Edmond Jaeger and Jacques-David LeCoultre led to the renaming of the manufacturer to Jaeger-LeCoultre, which was then printed on the dials.

The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra-Thin Tourbillon Moon is a quite beautiful example of the genre, with some interesting additional technical features which help distinguish it from the rest of the crowd. The full-rotor tourbillon movement is a relative rarity – JLC caliber 983, which looks to be the JLC cal. 973 automatic tourbillon, but with the addition of a moon-phase and date indication.
